Frequently Asked Questions

1)  Q –  Why should I do maintenance on my office chair?

A – There are many good reasons to do maintenance on your office chairs. Among others there are: Extending the life of the chair, often doubling it or more. Helping the chair roll smoother by keeping the wheels clean. Using the correct lubricants on the correct parts. Visual inspection for broken parts to help keep the user safe.

2)  Q –  How often does my office chair need maintenance?

A –  Many manufacturers recommend doing maintenance anywhere from every few months, to once or twice a year. Since maintenance and repairs are what we specialize in, most of our customers find that being on the Office Doc yearly maintenance program works very well for them.

3)  Q –  My office chair is brand new. Does it still need maintenance?

A –  That depends on the make of chair. Some chairs that are manufactured in Canada, USA, or Mexico are usually fine for the first year. Many chairs manufactured over seas could really use a tune up sooner than later, but again, depends on the chair. Give us a call, and we can discuss if your new office chair can wait with getting serviced.

4)  Q –  Why does the plastic mat I have over my carpet keep getting holes and cuts in it?

A –  Most chairs come equipped with wheels that are only meant to be used directly on carpet. Any time an office chair is being used on a hard surface, including plastic mats, they should have rubber wheels installed. You may also find that when installing rubber wheels when the office chair is being used on a hard floor gives that added benefits of it rolling smoother and quieter. Office Doc has rubber wheels available for many office chairs.

5)  Q –  My office chair is brand new. Wouldn’t it come with the right wheels for my floor?

A –  Because the hard plastic wheels that are only meant for carpet are cheaper, that is what most office chairs will come with from the factory. Many office chairs will actually come with a label under the seat that says to only use these casters on a carpeted floor and to use soft rubber wheels on a hard floor. So if your office chair is directly on carpet, it should have the correct wheels on it. If it is on any hard floor, give Office Doc a call to see about getting the correct wheels on your office chair.

6)  Q –  Why does my office chair slowly sink? Is there anything that can be done to fix it?

A –  Office chair cylinders wear out over time. Although some might last 20 years, others may only last one or two. Some of the really old cylinders are obsolete now, and can’t be replaced as there are no parts available. Fortunately though, most cylinders still can be changed out with a new one. Office Doc stocks four different length cylinders for replacing your old worn out one.

7)  Q –  What is an Office Doc?

A –  That is an excellent question as many people have never even heard of the concept of doing office chair and filing cabinet maintenance and repairs. Good quality office chairs and filing cabinets are expensive, so when you think about it, it only makes sense to keep them running smoothly for as many years as possible. The cost of doing annual maintenance is small when you consider the cost of replacing, not to mention the increased ease of use for all those many, many hours that the office chairs get sat in. Another great benefit of doing annual maintenance is helping to keep all these chairs out of our landfills. It’s great news for your pocket book, great news for the environment, and great news for the user of the chair.
